A Brief history...
His interest in order to deal with the tasks of technical content and innovative solutions led Rick to first train for mechanical engineering at the Saxion University, and the desire to give form and view things in an interdisciplinary perspective led him on to the University of Twente. To work as a technical lead turned out as a golden opportunity to combine the two disciplines.
After his departure from the University of Twente in 2007 Rick was initially employed via Brunel Engineering at Philips Lighting and after one year proving his worthiness he was employed at several business units within Philips lighting accross two regions, knowing as Europe Middle East & Africa and Asian Pacific Region. With many luminaire projects for business clients, there is ample opportunity for both developing special products for specific buildings and standard products for general use in the professional market. It utilizes Rick to – in cooperation with manufacturers and suppliers – develop products that fulfill new market needs and include the latest technology.
The systematic approach for the development of products embedding systems became one of his core competencies. It has, among other things, resulted in good selling lighting solutions such as SceneOn, Smartform and GreenPerform. Platform development is another important area of work. He participated by virtue of his experience as technical specialist at several future building projects such as CleanTech 1 and Cleantech 2 in Singapore. Rick was in 2010 named product architect with responsibility for Asian PAcific and Rest of Asia to implement and execute a structural global platform development approach within Philips Lighting.
In 2013 Rick choose to challenge himself in another technical field. He left Shanghai and moved back to the Netherlands. There he started working on advanced filtration systems, such as legionella filters. The first version, Shower Deluxe is introduced this year. He proved his skills are naturally applied in this other technical field as well. His work continues to link his broad interest in new technologies as well as new business development.
